Alistair has been waiting several years for Angel to produce her first foal because she is full sister to champions, Cotebrook Loch Maree and Cotebrook Blaven. Maree was sold several years ago, and Blaven is a gelding, so Angel is the only breeding horse with this blood line available to us.

A decision was made in 2007 to mate Angel to her half-brother, Ben Macdhui (both sired by Moorfield Charles, our great breeding stallion). Hasn't it worked out well!! What a superb foal, one of the best animals ever bred at Cotebrook!

It proves that inter-breeding can work if your blood lines are strong, and Charlie's were exceptional. He lives on at Cotebrook in his offspring, and Angel's foal has been named in his memory:

Since becoming a yearling Spirit has not been beaten in the show ring to date.

Spirit will be mated to Major in May 2011 and the resulting foal should be born April 2012.
